The types of data we collect about you
Personal data is any information about an individual from which that person can be identified.

We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about you, which we have grouped together as follows:

  • Transaction data includes details about payments to or from you and other details of the services you have purchased from us.
  • Technical data includes internet protocol address, your login data, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform, device ID and other technology on the devices you use to access our website.
  • Profile data includes your username and password, preferences and feedback.
  • Usage data includes information about how you interact with and use our website and services.
  • Marketing and communications data includes your preferences in receiving marketing from us and our third parties and your communication preferences. This includes for advertising suppression purposes, as detailed below.
How do you use and collect my data?
  • When you engage us to manage your claims application we will collect identity and contract data (if you choose to share these with us). We collect this in order to perform our contract with you or to take steps at your request before entering into a contract with you such as: to provide advice to you, keep you updated on your matter, and to send you important notices and protect the security of our systems and data. We may also use your data because it is in our legitimate interest to use it to assist with our provision of services to you, such as to undertake statistical analysis to help us manage our business and create, update and improve our customer records.
  • When you contact us either by phone, email, post, via our 'contact us' page or via social media, we will usually collect identity, contact and profile data or other detail you give us (such as in connection with a proposed legal matter), because it’s in our legitimate interest to make sure we can properly respond to your query.
  • To manage payments fees and charges we will collect financial and transaction data in order to make payment to you, or request payment from you, we may collect identity, contact, financial, transaction and marketing and communications data. We collect this in order to perform our contract with you.
  • When you use our website and consent to our use of cookies we will collect technical data . We may use your personal data contained within this information to improve and customise our website and its content to your particular preferences. We may also use it to see how you navigate around different sections of our website for analytics purposes. This helps us to understand how people use our website so that we can make it more intuitive or to check that our website is working as intended.   • To send you marketing information. Where you have opted in via our website to receive updates on our services including offers, promotions and new options, we will process your personal data to provide you with these updates in line with the preferences you have provided and will only use your personal data in this way with your consent.

    We may ask you to confirm or update your marketing preferences if you ask us to provide further services in the future, or if there are changes in the law, regulation, or the structure of our business.

    We share hashed (pseudonymized) versions of your email address and telephone number with Meta platforms to create ‘suppression audiences’ that prevent our advertisements being shown to you on Facebook and Instagram if you are already a customer. We rely on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) for this processing. Our legitimate interests are: (i) ensuring efficient use of our advertising budget; (ii) avoiding customer annoyance by preventing repeated targeting of existing customers; and (iii) improving customer experience.

    You can withdraw your consent to marketing, or such processing, at any time by contacting us at info@mycarloanclaims.co.uk or, where relevant, by following the unsubscribe link in any marketing communication you receive from us. You have the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, including the sharing of your data for marketing suppression and analytics purposes described above.   • When you attend one of our events or a third-party event we also attend (including virtual events via video conferencing providers), we will usually collect identity and contact data . We collect this personal data because it’s in our legitimate interests to promote our business and to know who is attending our events.
  • When you apply for a job with us or become an employee we may collect employment, contact, identity and financial data and any additional personal data we may receive from our recruitment partners.

    We will use your personal data to assess your suitability for our available roles. We do this to perform our contract obligations or to take steps at your request, before entering into a contract. Where we process your right to work documentation, we will do so to comply with our legal obligations.
  • If our business is sold. We process your personal data for this purpose because we have a legitimate interest to ensure our business can be continued by the buyer. If you object to our use of your personal data in this way, the buyer of our business may not be able to provide services to you.
  • From affiliate marketing companies and other third parties. We may collect contact, identity, financial and marketing and communications data from affiliate marketing companies and other third parties. We collect this personal data to take steps at your request before entering into a contract with you such as: to set up a file in your name and run any necessary compliance checks and provide advice to you. We also collect this personal data as it is necessary for our legitimate interests to carry out direct marketing, develop our services and grown our business.
Who do you share my data with?
  • Third parties we use (i) to help deliver our services to you such as experts and external Counsel, (ii) for the performance of the contract we enter into with them or you, including funders, outsource services and (iii) to help us run our business, such as website hosts, IT services providers, website analytics providers and banks. For example we may engage a third party to: We may also share pseudonymised data, with your consent, with social media platforms, including Meta Platforms, Inc (Facebook/Instagram), for the purpose of managing our advertising campaigns, including preventing existing customers from being shown advertisements.

    We may also share pseudonymised data with our marketing analytics partners, to help us analyse the effectiveness of our marketing activities and understand our customer demographics. We share pseudonymised personal data with our marketing analytics partner to conduct analysis of our marketing effectiveness, including postcode-level geographic analysis, age range distribution, and demographic profiling. This helps us understand our customer base and improve how we target our marketing activities. We rely on our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) for sharing data with our analytics partner. Our legitimate interests are: (i) understanding the effectiveness of our marketing spend; (ii) improving how we communicate with potential customers; and (iii) business planning and strategy development.
  • Promotional events and marketing organisations, we may share your data with an event organiser or collaboration brand including where we run workshops with co-presenters and offer a promotion alongside a partner brand. We will always tell you before (usually on the event registration form) and you will be given the chance to opt-out before we do this.
  • Regulators/ Authorities/ Enforcement Agencies/Courts/Insurers if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation, or in order to enforce or apply our terms of use and other agreements; or to protect our, our customers' and others' rights. This includes exchanging your personal data with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection.
  • Prospective buyers of our business under our legitimate interest to ensure our business can be continued by the buyer.
  • Other third parties in connection with a significant corporate transaction or restructuring, including a merger, acquisition, asset sale, initial public offering or in the event of our insolvency usually, information will be anonymised, but this may not always be possible, however, the recipient of the information will be bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • CRM database in order to help manage and deliver our services to you, to develop our business and to inform our marketing strategy.
Where do you store my data?
We store your data on servers which are based in the UK and EU. When working with third parties we may need to transfer your personal data outside of the UK and EU.

Whenever we transfer your personal data outside of the UK and EU, we ensure it receives additional protection as required by law. How long do you keep my data for?
We will only retain your personal data for as long as we need it unless we are required to keep it for longer to comply with our legal, accounting or regulatory requirements.
